Sir:

I have the honor to request that transportation be furnished Clayborne Brown and Twenty five {25} others, destitute Freedmen, from Vicksburg Miss to Hollands Landing Sunflower River Miss by water

This transportation is necessary to prevent suffering and to secure employment for the Freedmen, thus relieving the Government of their support.
