And I can assure you that our mayor and his deputies have been and are useing every endeavor to ascertain who committed the outrage.  That the teachers received no bodily harm, there cannot be any doubt.  All of the pistol shots were used to intimidate.  No bullet marks can be found in the house where the affray took place, and the inference is that the shots were fired into the air. Parties hearing the shooting came to the place just in time to see about a dozen men running away. So that is is easily to infer that no one was taken away with them.  There is some reason to believe that only one of the teachers were at the church at the time, as I suppose it could be proved that the other one was in bed with a colored woman in the neighborhood.
