My wife & my self both appreciate yours & Lt Eldridge kindness but beg leave to decline his Kind proposition & inclose the money to defray her expences to this place

We are both doing well & can make a support & educate & bring up our own Child. But we do not think we could give her up & be satisfied if we could we then might be willing  Therefore we hope you will send her [[strikethrough]] us [[/strikethrough]] to [[strikethrough]] her [[/strikethrough]] us as soon, as possible & oblige
