Sir,

I have the honor to report to you that one William McLean alias Marchison Freedman is in the habit of carrying his gun & accouterments for the ostensible purpose of killing game on the lands of different men and without permission as far as I am able to learn.

Many of our citizens have recently suffered from a loss of stock in this way. This man does not work regularly for wages, has a family to support, without any visible means of doing do, and they (my neighbors) respectfully ask through me that you advise them what course to pursue to prevent their hogs & beaves [[beef cattle]] from being killed and stolen.
