looking village, without center, without focus, except for a fish cannery and a fine arc of a bay - then a 10 mile drive to The [[strikethrough]] Algonquin [[/strikethrough]] Anchorage run by The L'aventures - a truly beautiful lodge: sweeping views of the water - a green lawn - a veg. garden - flower gardens - sweet peas & sw alyssum on the tables, a collection of bottles, art magazines, nature books, etc - a W.C. ptg [[watercolor painting]] by Joe Barles, but they were not taking in any guests. So to North Head to the Shore Crest Lodge for dinner, and a room next door for the night. Water shortage - a pump for well water - etc etc. A walk at 7 to a pier- and another view of the harbor. Eringuim [[Eryngium]] grows by the door - blue & full; it does grow in this climate. And so to bed. Friday 9/17/65 North Head It's 10pm - I'm in a room in the annex of the Shore Crest Lodge - bright naked light hanging from the ceiling, occasional cars rushing by outside. Up at 7 this morning in a large upstairs bedroom at Mrs. Gaskill's (& her arthritic son George) to find there was no water, for the well had at last run dry, after years of drought.
