Tues 9/6/66

A 2 1/2 mi hike thru mossy woods on easy terrain to Consolation Lakes, where an astounding view revealed itself. Mt Quadra & Mt Bident towering [[strikethrough]] overhe [[/strikethrough]] over morain slopes. [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] Immense boulders, rough, & pocked with lichen & moss, filled the first lake and threw a giant pattern of abandon onto the floor of the watery valley. The bog spread [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] over the wild stones and gave way to deep clear pools between boulders.

Returning, we stopped at the Lookout Pt. overlooking Morain Lake for a fine view of the blueness of the water and the 7 or 8 peaks of the Wenkchemna Range - one of the finest displays of mts. I have ever seen. Sketched. Later in the afternoon storm clouds rolled with the sky & cast a darkness over the peaks that was very dramatic to see. Dinner at the Lodge. Then a short walk along the shores of Moraine Lake.

It started to rain in the early morning - a light rain from the mts. The light over them was superb - took some shots before breakfast - & after - in the rain. Donned overcoats & boots & walked to Lookout Pt for a last look at those astonishing peaks. Saw in the grey rain they had lost some of their sharpness, but
