a spectacular view, to the south of a great sweeping view of the coast & to the West of 3 rock islands (& a flaming sunset - as I write this at 9 pm.) For dinner - to Netarts 2 mi down the coast - for Crab Louie - overlooking a broad expanse of a bay. Then back to the wide beach below the motel - looked for "Oregon jade" & agate.

[[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]] Oregon - how green, how greenly wooded & true to the idea of rightness in nature - this was the sweeping, rolling, rising land [[strikethrough]] before [[/strikethrough]] between Portland & The Sea. And on the coast, the [[strikethrough]] recognition of re [[/strikethrough]] sweeping in from the outermost west of [[strikethrough]] water & [[/strikethrough]] waves & breakers & tides & wind & light & space itself. It is all too overwhelming an awareness.

June 12. After a makeshift breakfast of an old bun, potato chips, peanuts, canned orange juice & coffee supplied by the motel owner - we drove down to Cape Lookout (?) walked on the beach, then drove up to the cape, a high peninsula - found in wet trail, like one in a rain forest - muddy & banked with ferns & mosses - & followed it for half a mile to a new point that revealed a sweeping
