I felt alienated from the land. Then we went to Kalihiwai Bay for a picnic lunch & fishing. I tried for small papio together with 20 other people, all perched on very black rocks.

The river ran deep from the mountains to the sea. The sand was very hot - as were the rocks. Alienation. The landscape on the way back was mostly dry red against huge white clouds & a blue sky, with [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] bloated mountains appearing [[strikethrough]] wit [[/strikethrough]] suddenly over a curve. In the late aft. at 5, I watered the avocado, & the 2 papaia seedlings and fed Poor Lumber some koa leaves. The heat was unbearable - and only yesterday I'd envied the Lauchis' gardens & their being here on Kauai. Today Oregon & Monhegan are infinitely more desirable & liveable.

Mon July 26 - A busy day. To airport to meet Sunine, Margaret, Doug, Michael, Lisbeth & Carl. Supper with them all here - spaghetti & meat sauce, ice cream. Picked lilikoi in back, made contact with Doug (& [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] Margaret.) Played anagrams with [[strikethrough]] Th [[/strikethrough]] them after supper. Gordon came late - for supper - told us about a road behind Wailua - yellow ginger.

Tues 27th Pris drove us & Doug & Lisbeth into that road-way mauka of Opaekaa Falls - interesting - valleys, mountains - a good view of Waialeale & Kapali mts. Found lilikoi & strawberry guavas Hot, sticky even there, mauka. Then to Taba Gardens on Opaekaa Road - a nursery - a tree laden with pummelo.
