2 Monhegan.
Friday 6/27- An impossibly warm humid day. Started off poorly, but finished rather well. To Seal Ledges with Gussons - supper on the rocks - with Seth's stove. Chili con carne + franks. Got mussels, periwinkles, kelp, laver + n. hair - waded in sandy lagoon. (Herb + Zero[?] arrived today.) To Jan's for cake + tea: Boehrmans, Mollers, JOan + Alan, Werbes Good discussion, good talk. Home by moonlight.
Sat 6/28. Woke at 9 am to a first class view of white waves from the bedroom window. A haze of a day, a whistling of the south wind. In windy country there are a thousand sudden, furtive movements in the field and instant flashes of light and leaf that catch the eye, eliciting quick, primitive responses and overreactions. Tonight, full moon and visible landscape at 11 pm.
Sun. 6/29. Hot, humid, a little wind to temper the summer heat. Mowed the "front lawn." White rugosa in full bloom. Vegetables in abundance for green salads of thinnings: to Samsons, yesterday a bagful to Mostels. Worried about deer. Scrabble at Gussons, evening.
Mon - a busy day - painted + finished 2 more w.c.'s. Showing today but only Ed Samson III came. Lou + Laura Pollock arrived. Went over to alans for drinks - (also Look Mag. photog + writer). Pam + Glenn dropped in after supper (cod, from Art Tollerman, yesterday). Nice day today. A strong southerly wind came up in evening, making waves. Lysimachia from the swamp in full display on teh table, with white spirea. Rained at 2 am
