Mon July 14'69. Can it be that a month & a
half of the summer is gone! An overcast day,
with wild slanted clouds in the northern sky
all day, and a reluctant sun in the grey air.
Helfmans came over to studio, as did Glen Kraus
Took beet greens to Sally. Some woman. is lost on the island, & a yellow seaplane [[strikethrough]] fl [[/strikethrough]] criscrossed the island all day looking for her. I transplanted a row of salad bowl lettuce & a row of chard. The Malabar spinach has its second leaves. The fennel is up. In the evening Peter & Raquel Boehner dropped in. Showed them our house, the upstairs, G's w.c's, ceramics, jewelry, the table I made, the coffee table, my rock collection, my bottles, our singer root, [[strikethrough]] sea [[/strikethrough]] dried seaweed, our great view of Manana, our porch with its thick greenery, the garden, the herbs, the 3 orchids. Before midnight we went out on upstairs balcony to look at the stars. That bright star in the s.w. sky is not, after all, Antares - but probably Mars. Antares is to its left, not as bright, but [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] more like Arcturus in the western sky. I saw Vega in the zenith.

Tues. July 15 - a nice sunny day. Got boards from Gussows' rabbit hutch lumber pile & removed nails. Picked a huge salad for Ian and Alice Hunter's dinner tonight (at Hinchman's house). Painted a set of lg. w.c.'s is in the making. Alice Stoddard dropped by at noon & shared lunch with us. I gave her some salad bowl lettuce & some summer savory.
