Sat Sept 3. '66. There comes a time when satiety dulls one's perception Unfortunately it had to be today when on the drive south form Jasper the magestic mts. loomed to the left and right. I could only look at them as scenery. The very high peaks began to merge into a collage (as at one stage, the heads and beaches of Oregon) and I was only mild witness to them. The Columbia Ice Field ("snowmobile" ride thru the icy plateau) and a drive to the "toe" of the glacier, a look into a icy cave, were [[strikethrough]]as[[/strikethrough]] pleasureable, no more, [[strikethrough]]?[[/strikethrough]] devoid of wonder to me. Spent the night at the Sasketchewan Motel, overlooking some barren and bleak peaks. (Strange mushrooms beside the cabin). Sun Sept 4 - Drove thru more majestic country of tall ice covered mts. and rivers, stopped at several "viewpts." Arrived at Lake Louise Junction at 1:30 and found lodging at Motel Lake Louise. Drove 7 mi to Moraine Lake - there saw a now very tall dark craggy peaks, enough inducement to transfer to lodge there for next evening. Drove to Chateau Lake Louise, lousy with tourists. An unfortuante situation of the public colliding with the privacy of an otherwise beautiful and quiet setting.
