took a left turn up the valley it was much like what it was 11 or 22 years ago. Picked pond snacks in the taro patch along the road. 

Wed. 8/18. Back to Lihue to Ault for travel reservation on Maui & Hawaii. Shopping in Lihue, then to Rehab Center to see Gary Feifield about boring holes in cowrie shells (can't) In eve to airport to deliver Bobby to his plane & to pick up Pris. 

Thurs-20 Lihue, to library to Xerox arts story & ArtUSA new article for DOE show [?] then to Anahola beach with Audrey for a day- then to Waipahee road to pick guavas- so very plentiful. Slides after supper. 

Fri a good day 8/20- to Anahola (Aliomanu Rd) with Harvey Melvin, Aud. Sylvia- to meet Jerome Wallace (& Wn Le Gro) in his abode -  a shack, & a sand-floored studio, & a yd [[?]] with guava trees. Good talk on art, politics, Kauai, critics, shows, etc. Felt this contact interesting, painting as it does to the possibility of living here as an artist.  It became clearer to me - the acceptance of [[strikethrough]] weath [[/strikethrough]] climate could be the opening wedge to settling here. There was an electric fan in the tiny living rm. I thought of Kauai as home & of the mountains on Hanalei as grand [[strikethrough]] enough [[/strikethrough]] material for my work. 

(then we the beach for lunch & the river for fishing - it rained.
