Respectfully returns to Asst. Commr with the information that No renters are living off the dependents, unless they steal from or barter with dependents for food and clothing.

Many of the renters were once dependents, and now have blankets & clothing; furnished them when dependents.

A report will be made as soon as completed concerning persons renting houses in the Village, without visible means of support.

Endorsement reply to Comm 2 Page 68. Letters received

Respectfully returned to Asst. Commr D.C. with the information- 1" that I am unable to define but a single case in which pieces fell short and that in March last - a piece of Denim fell short (11) yards - The ambulance in which it was conveyed from Washington, coming by Chain Bridge, broke down, and was left by the way, through the night - The abstraction was doubtless new - According to Lieut Bergevin's returns the amount of clothing issued, has covered the number of Yards and quantity of materials purchased, still there was formerly a very loose way of keeping such accounts, the A. A. Q. M. issuing to the Matron indiscriminately, and taking her schedule of Articles issued as his voucher, from which to make his returns of expenditure of woman's and children's clothing No losses have appeared lately, and the issues of clothing are now made except by the A. A. Q. M.

B" There is no evidence whatever that I am able to obtain that any dishonesty has been practiced, in renting houses; there is no rent roll kept nor rent account except a pencil memorandum. I cannot get at any facts except such as Lieut Bergevin's reports of tenants & show

Mrs Stull can give no testimony whatever in this matter
