would - But it takes time to get over the grippe and we must be patient. If only I could carry him off to Ashville, North Carolina or to some of the Islands some where, any where out of this climate & from all work & care. Now he says he shall return to New York next week - at the mention of New York my heart sinks into my heels. Please watch him closely and if you see anything a-miss let me know. Please do! Mr. Putnam can not have many setbacks like this last one in New York - Ethel is in your big city now - visiting her friend Miss Savage - 415 Riverside Drive - were you living in the city I should say go to see her [[strikethrough]] her [[/strikethrough]] but the Drive is so far away and she is out so much I fear you would not see her, she will be at the museum when her father is there & there she can call on you. I wonder if you have seen my nephew yet Mr. Clarke - he is hovering between New Haven & New York just at present - He gave us a delightful surprise the other day by walking in on us when we supposed he was in Chaco - I wish you were at Chaco this year for I know that you and he would be fast friends - he is so kind + gentle, clever + companionable + wholly interested in his work - He likes his cowboy life in New Mexico, even tho' little R's table manners are so kind o' queer! With renewed thanks
