Dear Doris -

  We were glad to get your letter Sat morning and to hear you had been lucky enough to find a place of refuge hope it will prove to be what you  desire, but you will have to put up with some inconveniences probably.  We are having a nice cool day for Sunday, a hard shower last night and clear today.  I have been busy all the week putting up apple and tomatoes but have filled all but a few of my jars now our tomatoes held out well and I have more than common ? up for winter use.  Lena is out  she came early after eve had been to dinner  she seems very schoolmarmy and she has got a cold, she is sitting now curled up in the bow window in the sun, bundled up  you'd think it were middle of winter sure.  I called on Aunt Becca Fridday  she had also a bad cold they are common now I hear.  Yesterday I sewed some long sleeves on my shirts and guess I can
