Dear Doris-
We are having a nice pleasant day after the tempest that past by us yesterday, which spilled us a little rain, but not half enough, its a pity the rain which you are having so much of couldnt some of it, come up here, so our gardens would not suffer, our beets after planting them the second time didnt come up as they should, so he brought home another package of seeds, which we have just put in this morning after soaking in water a few hours. our lettuce is big enough to eat and yesterday I planted more in the hot bed and there I shall grow it, so we shall have it later on. I hope by this time your blouses have arrived safe and that they are satisfactory. I got rid of the old carpet up in the back unfinished room, there were enough moth breeders I thought without that there. Mrs Griffin was one yesterday when the black cloud came up but we got very little of the lightning we were glad of it for we were both dreading in and then she came again in the evening and once during th week. She says that the Kings have had a windfall a cousing has died worth property and they are some of the lucky ones, to get a little. The Toomy family (newly weds) are still living one the hill but are fixing their house to go housekeeping sometime no hurry is their slogan always. I havnot heard from the Blakes for over a week now they were talking of having company the last time
