Carthage Leake Co Miss. July 6 1867
Brevet Major General A. C. Gillem

Dr. Sr.
The Board of Registration has visited half the precincts of this County gaining as much information as possible concerning the points embraced in your circular.

The crops of this County for 1866 were chiefly corn, cotton, wheat, oats, and peas. Of corn and cotton there was produced, probably about a half a crop. The other crops were almost a total failure.

The failure is to be attributed to the continued Spring rains and a long summer drouth.

The extent of land in cultivation this year is greater than last, tho' probably a third less than before the war.

About half the land under cultivation at the present time is planted in cotton the rest in corn, wheat, oats and swt. potatoes.
