Jim Thorpe Displays Set In Advance Of Saturday's Observance In Carlisle

The Carlisle Jaycees "Project Jim Thorpe Committee" reported today that all is going very well for Saturday's Project Jim Thorpe Day events.

Project Chairman Michael Sheaffer reported that Pat Rolling Cloud, from Campbelltown, has placed on display many Indian items in the Kronenberg's community window. The Indian items will be on display until May 12. 

His display contains many Indian children arts and some craft work, Navajo blankets and many other items of interest. Also a photo collection of Jim Thorpe and other Carlisle Indian School athletes are located in the front store window of Kronenberg's. This collection is made available by G. Bearden Kunkle of Carlisle. 

A large photo collection of James Wardecker will be on display in the Blumenthal's store window. His collection also features Jim Thorpe on many of his photos.
 
The committee also reported that many letters of support have been received thus far. Letters of support have been received from the Y's Men Club of Carlisle, the Beta Epsilon Chapter from State College, Shippensburg signed by 31 members of the Shippensburg chapter. A letter of support has been received from the Milwaukee, Wis., Jaycees. 

The committee also noted that contributions have been received from the following people to aid the financial aspect of the project. Money has been received from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rockwell, Jr., and J. E. Warrell, both from Carlisle; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Savant from Mechanicsburg, and J. E. Bouis of Kilmarnock, Va.

Sheaffer also reported that the Jaycess will have for sale a souvenir booklet on May 10. The booklet will contain many photos of Jim Thorpe and photos of two Olympic trophies he won in the 1912 Olympics. The booklet will sell for 75 cents and will be available the afternoon and evening of Project Jim Thorpe Day.
