Project Jim Thorpe

Dear Sir:
"Young Men Can Change the World..." is indeed a fitting motto for the Jaycee movement. The purpose of this press kit is not to change the world, but to clear a miss injustice to a Great American athlete, James "Jim" Thorpe.

James Thorpe, a Sac and Fox Indian, who won the pentathlon (five events) and the decathlon (ten events) and also won the hearts of thousands at the 1912 Olympic games held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Shortly after the Olympics, Jim Thorpe was stripped of his amateur status, and the medals and trophies he won were taken away. It was reported that Jim played semi-pro baseball from 1908 to 1910. Some historians have since claimed that Thorpe received only expenses. Thorpe claimed he played only for the sport of it and not for the money.

This press kit is being used to kick off a national campaign to solicite support for Project Jim Thorpe. Some 1,000 persons will receive this kit. Please address all correspondence to your regional representative.

Sincerely, yours,

Regional Representative
