Dear Doris

I have just got my squash pie in the oven so will now begin my letter & later on start my dinner. it is early & the sun shines out faintly, yesterday it was a beautiful day after the rain. 

Alice came Thursday and went away yesterday morning, she was going to Milton to day on a new case. to take care of an elderly man who had had a shock & was to care for a family of two children grown up. she is kept very busy & has ten dollars a week not very much these times. nursing alone would be more than that I should think, but she seems satisfied. & working as long in that hospital up to New Hampshire, she had the experience in taking care of old people & is naturally good natured, & I should think she might make a fine nurse. she is a good cook also. we were going up to see Emily [[written over]] Thursday [[/written over]] Friday if it had been a good day. she always wants to get into the old neighborhood. Gladys got out of Houghton & Duttons last September. the irish she stood, (girls were mostly catholics) as long as she could, so sent in her resignation. & Harry has her name on the list at his place so she will
