Pocung

Aug 20 - second visit to Pocung
saw three handcrafts:
1. wayang kulit
2. batik
3. back strap weaving
visit Pak Atmodirjo, the dukoh of Pocung
(same house we visited with Rian)
wayang Kulit 200+/- craftsmen, 60 houses
batik 40 craftsmen
weaving only 2 craftsmen left
pop. of the village 703, 150 households (kpala keluasga)
Kulit:
formerly entire village (women only)
wove lusek-type cloth
up to Japanese occupation still a lot of weaving + profits high- after that, weaving decreased due to competition from textile factories- kulit industry began 1918- was introduced by Atmokasyo, father of lak Atmodisjo
Atmokasyo in 1918 could already make wayang- was called by [[?]] to attend classes at [[?]] Kepatian, [[?]] for 6 months - he was then sent home and given orders to make wayang, which were sold [[?]] [[?]]
