steps for menyungging:
1. given a base coat of gold-colored brom

2. dried and rubbed with shell to make smooth again (brom has small metal particles which must be worked into {strikethrough} skin

3. painted (diwerna)

1. white from siwrt (powdered pigment)
2. pink from gincu (teres) (another kind of pigment) mixed with siwrt
3. red gincu alone

4. yellow from atal
5 orange = alal & gincu
6. green = atal + indigo ink (tinta nila)
7. gold = brom mas
8. hitam = lamp black
to menyungging a halus wayang, takes about 5 days, 2 for rough, 3 for med.

usually a tukang menyungging works on 4 wayangs at once painting one while others are drying
acc. to Pak Almo can force the painting if necess. to a day 7 a night if have a special order

- most pengrajin buy white hides from which hair already removed - such a clean hide called a "split"
for finest puppets prefer to buy uncleaned hide and work themselves - cost of un-cleaned 800 Rp per K for ave. quality puppets buy split at 1200 per K for rough buy "put" at 400Rp per K - used for fans for souvenirs, etc.
