Upturned split bamboo for evap
Covered over holding pond
One KEBAR

none of the salt producers has ever gotten credit from a govn bank or credit source
also moneylenders not active in the village
must buy bamboo, their major investment, from sale of salt

formerly 50% of prod. went to the coop of krupuk makers in solo

formerly, with more shifts taking out water, one well supplied 50 kebar + were 36 wells in use - now! well used less intensively supplies only 15 kebar

can estimate no. of kebars in use then and now very roughly:
50 x 36 = 1300 kebars
15 x 5 = 75 kebars

(75 seems low)

complained of an excess of ground water standing on surface now due to underutilization

drinking water for the village comes from pure water wells to the south

division of labor by sex:

men: bring up water from wells + pour it into conduit which leads to holding ponds

men + women: fill bamboos with water from [[strikethrough]] evap. [[/strikethrough]] holding ponds

"harvest" (panen) of crystals + bleng

we were told only women filled, but we saw both men + women doing these bucket tasks
maybe division of labor less specialized now than formerly

salt crystals sold for 75 Rp a kilo, bleng for 500 Rp a blek
