400 people looked on helplessly as demolition squads tore down 94 homes yesterday at Kalijodo on banks of Angke river ((are Kalijodo & Angke settlements same?))
last week fire already razed about 100 homes making 300 people homeless but city authorities deny having anything to do w/ the fire
took 4 hrs. for squads to demolish the 94 shacks - squads armed with "sticks, machetes and steel cables fastened to trucks"
people forced to stand by & watch demolition & not allowed to look for belongings till after squad left
these 94 houses represent "Phase One" of Kalijodo demolition
people had sent a delegation to Jak. legislative council earlier in the mo.
