I have sewed patchwork pretty much all day. now there are 51 squares, rustic pattern in all, that I have made. Where does Grace Southworth stay when she is down there in Washington I suppose they are very much for saving like their old father. Too bad they have to shut up their pretty house winters. they ought to retire on what he has got & live there. but its too far from civilization any way. I am taking advantage of Pas being asleep to write this letter the night before. there is noth much to tell about though. They had a lively town meeting last night but guess it did not get them any where. some mighty heated discussions according to the paper. Pa was reading about it and afterwards said. I was interested in such as that & now look at me. it was pretty sad to think of the change in affairs just the same, he was so active & now what a wreck, such is life & we have to submit whether we want to or not, his life & mine are things of the past. but who cares, I am interested in the next life, this one has been long enough, (too long) I am heartily sick of it. I have more to call me there than here. Ma.

PS Thursday morning
