Dear Doris

Another nice cool day. I found some scabiosis [[Scabiosa]] seeds tucked away that I had forgotten a jar full so I have found room for them in my garden. the dirt where I planted them was just like an ash heap so I watered them & hope
they grow.

I have just been out talking to the Ballentine girl she is trying to fix her back yard, planning how to make it more presentable. she wants a rock garden where that old stump is. she is a nice little thing, very sunny & works out after she gets home from her work in Boston till after dark. the other sister is frail & has no taste for outside digging she sews.

Pa is nervous so I did not get in my usual nap to day but I rested up. my bird bath attracts some but its most too cool for them to bathe much. the little cat bird & two robins I have seen drinking there.

The Ballentines [[Ballentine's]] say they priced them in town and they were very high - six or eight dollars. but Burt up above us makes them out of cement for a dollar & a half. I would just as soon have this one. it is a pretty little gracef [[graceful]] thing.
