Stoughton April 30th 1932

Dear Doris

This is the end of a perfect day. just right to be out without out side wraps. I have been out side most of the day. doing first one thing + another my kitchen fire went out at noon & I have had a little wood fire just enough to get supper with.

Pa has been up stairs most all the afternoon. Just after dinner Eddie Harris came to share him. he comes now once a week usually on Fridays. I am reading a book that I got down to Alices [[Alice's]]. "The Broken Halo" & after I get my work along I read it takes up my spare moments. no one comes to see us 7 it keeps me from being lonely.  Myrtie says that she does Forest Holmes es wives washing for .50 a week & its worth a $1.00 but it gives her a little money to spend. she got a pair of stockins [[stockings]] for .20 Mrs Tom Stutton keeps her in clothes she & Marrion & Mildreds children have the boys cast off clothes, so that helps to cloth [[clothe]] them. she has them at all ages, one every year.

I asked about Eleanors [[Eleanor's]] husband she says she thinks a good deal of him & they have got Laurie living with them. Elsie takes case of an old woman & has four dollars a week big wages. I think perhaps they are getting along better up there than they would if there were here. The man who bought Charles old farm shoes horses & his wife is a worker. Myrtie says she never goes
