I have the honor to report the following circumstances as substantially true in every particular to wit.

There is no Mayor of this town. Captain A.J. Lewis the present incumbent called upon me at my Office this morning and informed me he had resigned.  We are greatly in need of the above named Officer, and the Office should be filled -  a Loyal man who can take the Iron Clad Oath should fill the Office in order that impartial Justice should be administered to all alike Black and White.  at present no one seems to know who is Mayor - but by Lewis's own statement to me the Office is vacant.

Mr Frank M. Wood, at present Post Master here would accept the Office if the Appointment was tendered him, and I do not know any others not Office Seekers whom I
