Office of the Asst. Comr for the State of Mississippi - Vicksburg, Dec. 24th 1867

Respectfully referred to the Asst. Comr. State of Louisiana with the request that he will cause an investigation of this case to be made and if there are not satisfactory reasons to the contrary that he will return an order (addressed to J. N. Cook at Claiborne Parish La.) through these Hd Qrs, to David Goodson who is the legal guardian of the with in named Ledi and Valerine Goodson, directing said Cook to deliver to Goodson, his wards Ledi and Valerine. It is believed that the only Course for the guardian to obtain possession of his wards is through the officer or agent of the Bureau or military Commander having jurisdiction over Cliborne Parish, as it appears that the Civil authorities in that locality have failed to enforce the guardian's rights.
