I have the honor to transmit herewith a report of the action taken on the grievances complained of by Dick Steward against Robert R Richardson. I enclose a copy of the agreement entered into by Dick Steward (freedman) and Robert Richardson wherein you will see that there is no mention made to give him any interest in the crop whatever. he only worked as blacksmith on the plantation, Dick Steward however had three sons, not of age working on shares like the other freedman on the place. After the cotton corn and other produce which was raised on the plantation had been sold, Mr. R R Richardson made a division of the money giving the freedman as per contract one fifth (1/5) of the whole amount which closed Mr. Richardson's contract and responsibilities with the freedmen for the year 1866. The freedmen who worked on shares last year for Mr. Chardson numbered about thirty-three (33) men and
