Enclosed statement of Thomas Bates (freedman)
the effect that on January 5th 1867, he entered in
an argument with Noble Leea to run and cultivate
a piece of land, which agreement the said Leea
altered afterwards without consulting him. Bales
thus binding him to confine himself entirely
to the cultivation of the aid land. That
said Lee having obtained from the Burea
Agent at Magnolia a summons for him
Bates air deliver the same, but he (Bates
being, unable to understand it did delay
retorting, whereupon Leea, aided by other
look him from his home by force and drive
to the Bureau Office, where it was
decided that said Bales could remain or
the farm until his contract expired, but
that the crop he had raised should be
entirely devoted to the to the purpose of paying
the rent.

In consideration of the face that Leea virtually
annulled the contract by adding to it as above stated
of the other causes of complaint, prays that said noble
Leea be forced to allow a reasonable sum for land
from him (Bates) (1/4 arces), and that are investigation be had
and relief granted.
