KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, THAT

I Charles W Crouch

held and firmly bound unto Thomas N Gadsden in the full and just sum of Five Thousand Eight hundred and fifty-four dollars and Fifty-cents to be paid to the said Thomas N Gadsden his certain Attorney, Executors, and Administrators, or Assigns: to which payment, well and truly to be made and done. I bind myself and each and every of my Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.

Sealed with my Seal and dated at Charleston the sixteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Thirty eight and in the sixty-second year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That if the above bound Charles W Crouch his Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, shall, and do well and truly pay, or cause to be paid unto the above named Thomas N. Gadsden his certain Attorney, Executors, Administrators or Assigns, the full and just sum of one Thousand Four hundred and Twenty seven 25/100 Dollars In thirty days from the date of these presents with legal interest thereon untill[[until]] fully paid and shall also transfer unto the said Thomas N. Gadsden Twenty shares in the South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company now standing in the name of the said Charles and pledged by the said Charles to the [[?]]hear of the State Bank and for the payment of Fifteen hundred dollars due the said Charles to the State Bank. 

without fraud or further delay, then the above obligation to be void and of none effect, or else to remain in full force and virtue.
