Richmond Va Dec 19th 1840

Dr Doct - 

After my respects to you - I will inform you this leaves me well - I arrived hear on Fryday morning at four O clock - I left Charleston on Wedensday evening at 4 - makeing the trip in thirty six hours presizely - The first 12 hours was very disagreeable to me not being accustomed to water, I was very sick after being at cee a baute one hour. I was like the ballance of the crew - we all commenced vomiting - the waves was very high, and if I had bin back to land I would have give up the trip by water - but I thaute I would take the chances - as I had started, and there is no way to git off after we start - I landed safe at Wilmington N.C. there I took the carr for Petersburg + then cars from there to this place - I have made but little discovery since I got hear I have bin to sevral jailes and found some negroes at all of them for sail, the prices is not as low as I could wish, but I think money can be made at the prices they are going at, I saw 6 or 8. sold yesterday at auction I think some of them would hav done, but I concludid I would look round a few days before I would
