When one was nearby we stopped and threw snowballs at it for some time and after caused the bird to lodge its head or jump hastily to one side to avoid being struck yet not until the fire became too hot to resist did the bird take flight with a krrr of defiance - I fired four shots from my rifle at once a foul 25 yards away and each of the items fired shots threw up the snow close beside the bird yet it did not stir until the 4th shot broke its back
