(4) Corn to the amount of some 3 wagon loads, perhaps 65 or 75 bushels Wren has received. It is proper to state here that a complaint was made to the agent of the Freedman's Bureau at Tupelo, a month or six weeks ago, and that he addressed a letter to one squire John Miller, whose past office address is Ryans Well, Itawamba County, Miss., directing him to investigate the matter and report. Squire Miller did so and the matter was then dropped. I went to Squire Miller's residence to get what information I could concerning the case, but did not find him at home or get to see him. I waited a little over a day to see Duke & at the end of that time it occurred to me that he was purposely staying away from home, and that it would be useless to remain longer and I then started for Bay Springs, leaving word for Duke if he came that night to meet me at the Springs, and bring with him the Contract and the written proceedings of the Board of Arbitration. Early the next morning he came into B. Springs and told me he had the papers I wanted to see. Upon examination, however, he did not have the Contract with him and it I was unable to see. He told me that if the Sub. Asst. Commisioner, Bureau R.F. and A.L. desired it, he would either bring it in person to Corinth or send it. Deeming that my instructions did not cover the case
