Not knowing how much money she might have taken, nor what the debts were against the estate of Mr Marshall, I had her arrested and hence she was bound over after a due examination before a Magistrates at which she had the benefit of Counsel. Francis Hopson, now comes forward and claims the entire effects of Mr. Marshall, independent of the law, and the rights of the creditors, on the ground that she had lived with Mr. Marshall three years, when the truth is, thus at two several times previous to his sickness she had lived with only a few months at a time. Mr. Montague the Agent of the Bureau of F. R & A L. at this place, on her filing her claim before him, has issued an Order taking out of my hands the entire property of Mr. Marshall, and claims that Francis Hopson must be paid first. Not believing that Major General Gillem will allow all shades of the civil law to be set aside in this case, I submit the facts to him I will also state to General Gillem that the burial expenses of Mr. Marshall amounting to about one hundred dollars remain unpaid, and that if all this property is handed over to Francis Hopson I will have them to pay myself. Hoping that Major General Gillem will make such orders as may seem best to him I remain Respectfully H P Reid
