He states that he is informed that the said C.C. Walden had presented to the said Sheriff on the morning of the 5th Mch Lt Humason's order for the money & that the said Sheriff not feeling at liberty under his responsibility, to pay him the [[strikethrough]] hon [[/strikethrough]] large sum of money he demanded without an order from the comdg- Genl of the Dist, addressed a note to Lt Humason asking delay of the execution of his own order until the Comdg Genl. could be permitted to receive his action. the reply of Lt Humason, was his appearance with the armed force in the front yard of the Sheriff's residence & his own personal demand for the money-- Petitioner here shows as Exhibit A. a letter dated Mch 1868. addressed to Lt Humason by Mr. Dan R. Russell.
