I wish to know wether it is in your power to aid me to the amount of 300 Dollars to enable me to get through with my plantation this year. The sum is small but to me at this time is of much importance  I have 10 hands & am planting for 30 Bales Cotton have everything but a sufficiency of meat and some clothing for the freedmen, I am willing to secure the  amount by deed of trust on my stock and crop  the stock is worth 4 times that sum. At Sheriff sale & free from all encumbrance I bought and paid for my place last year  this absorbed my means. I am a western man from
