Hazlehurst, Miss. July 25th 1868 A statement by S.P. Harvey S.P. Harvey says, He seen a colored procession Don't know the number, thinks there was between one and Two Hundred; formed near his house, that the procession had gone some Hundred yards or more, at this time Harvey was about one hundred yards from the procession, with a blacksmith [[strikethrough]] [[?]][[/strikethrough]] between him and the procession - he heard considerable noise, as though there was a general fight, in a short time he seen the blacks running towards his, Harvey's, house followed by a mixed crowd. Knew the crowd in procession had pictures &c when they started, did not see any on their return. Seen them on the ground broken up - don't know who broke them up as the blacks run it created a cloud of dust, seen brickbats flying don't know threw them. Thinks much credit is due Depty Sheriffs Jones and Casumack also Lieut Churchill who dispersed the crowd and for their conduct upon the occasion. Don't know of his own knowledge where the other Depty Sheriffs were, did not meet Sheriff Lowe until evening. Very Truly &c S.P. Harvey
