did in compliance with existing Military orders direct that a Board of Arbitration should commence for the settement thereof - which will appear by reference to Exhibit No 1 - herewith pled, the same being the original order of Capt Tidball ordering said Board of Arbitration bearing date Dec 23d 1867. In conformity with their order a Board of Arbitration composed of E P. Byrne, T.M. Stone & Crockett was convened, who after due notice to all parties and after a full & ? examination of the claims of all parties, awarded, that Shipp Bourges & Co should after paying certain amounts of money - found to be due certain freedmen (whose names are not now remembered) ship said cotton and receive the proceeds through in part by most of supplies furnished by them. Shipp Bourges & Co, accordingly, paid to every freedman, the amt awarded them, and received & shipped the cotton. The award of said Board of Arbitration, was written out in full and was by the Board returned to the office of the Asst. Comr at Greenville, where it is still presumed to be. Thomas Gibson the claimant here was the foreman of a squad of hands working for a portion of the crop -~ say one half - and was to pay for all supplies furnished them - also for half of the feed consumed by the mules - Carter furnishing free of charge - Land, Teams & implements.
