for instruction in natural history at the National Museum, arrived in San Francisco, Cal., during last spring from a long cruise on the U.S.S. Mohican, which sailed from the Atlantic coast about a year before. A collection received from him in June indicates that the many rare opportunities afforded him for obtaining specimens were not neglected, and the surface towings he obtained are very rich in interesting forms.
