Special Orders
No. 77. }
The cotton picking season being about to commence and the necessity for securing of the Government the rents due on the leases being apparent, the Sub Commissioner of Davis Bend is charged with the duty of protecting the Government claims. To this end each lessee will be required to reserve for the satisfaction of his
rent-charge, an amount of marketable cotton calculated at the ruling price, which shall be shipped under the supervision of the said Sub Commissioner, the proceeds of which will be applied directly to the payment of the rent, and to no other purpose, except any surplus remaining after such payment.

It having been stipulated by and between the former Assistant Commissioner and the lessees, that should the land of certain parties who have leased plots outside the levee be overflowed to such an extent as to materially injure the crops or prevent the planting of all or any part of the land, no rent should be charged except for that portion which could have been planted, this stipulation will in all cases coming under its provisions, be duly observed by the Sub Commissioner in settling claims of the Government.

A deduction will be made from the number of acres leased which could not be planted on account of overflow, and only charge made at the price per acre agreed upon and stated in the lease, for the number of acres not overflowed and which could have been planted. - An agent of the Bureau Receiving and Disbursing Officer of this State, duly authorized, will be present to calculate and receive all rents herein mentioned.
