present will be one hundred males and females and I have no doubt that the amount of board for a teacher and for fuel next winter can be raised by these scholars, but people here being very poor cannot raise more for the present but the cost of repair of the building. I request you now to inform this committee what aid they can get from the government to start this school. I have to remark that they wish to employ a colored man here as teacher who they say is able to keep school. There is a station of the N.C. R R at this town. As to the other place I can only say that the building granted them for a Sunday school will be let them also for a daily school, and that the people of that neighbourhood will hold a meeting next week, and that I shall then be able to state the particulars and what amount they are willing and able to bear. I have not yet been able to find any building for a school in Caswell Co., but I hope to report very soon more favorably in this respect.
