In compliance with your letter of the 17th inst. I have the honor to report; Mrs. Elisabeth Pasteur and her sister Mrs. Mary Ann Pasteur state, that they owned 3 houses in Newberne N.C. and lived in one of them on New street till June 19th 1863. Then they moved here and let also this house like the two others after having received a written permit from General Foster to go and [[strikethrough]] receive [[/strikethrough]] collect here the rents [[margin note 1]] of those houses, which [[strikethrough]] they received [[/strikethrough]] was granted on account their relations had been in the United States service. their father & f. in law having served in the revol. war  This paper has been destroyed by fire last year in the house of their agent at Newberne. They received then said rents here at Graham till January 1864, when they were informed that it was stopped and the rents seized upon by order of General Butler. They had then not possession of the houses nor received rent till September 1865 and do not know, who had possession or collected the rent during that
