The destitution is much more general in the white population. the Colored people as a general thing being able to Support themselves. They however Constitute a very Small portion of our Citizenship having only registered up to this date three hundred & Eighty (380) out of two thousand five hundred (2500)

The Crops of 1866 were almost an entire failure on account of the very general drought and the general inability of farmers to cultivate on account of the Scarcity of Stock. Lands &c. Our opinion is that about one half of the land fit for cultivation is now being worked with the prospects of an unsually good crop. We are also of the opinion that about one fifth of the present Crop is Cotton the ballance
