The number of sick, old and infirm, suffering from want, in the Sub. Dist. cannot be given at present, but I think, that the number, of this class at this time, is very small indeed.

The issue of rations ceased on the 20th of the month.

There are no schools in operation, in this Sub. Dist. at the present time, for the benefit of freedmen, and much anxiety is expressed among them, as to the prospect for the establishment of schools, in various localities. Many inquiries have been made at this Office, with regards to this matter. The desire for improvement seems to be universal with the freedmen, and not a day passes, without numerous applications at this office, for reading matter. In
