think they have been wronged in consequence of failing to make as much money as they anticipated, not taking into consideration the high prices paid for provisions +c, furnished them, and the present low price of cotton. there has been two cases just reported, somewhere in the vicinity of Pontotoc, where freedmen have been driven from plantations without receiving any part or share of the crop. I shall make a special report of the same as soon as I learn more of the details.

There has been no old sick or infirm freedpeople that are suffering from want reported during the month.

I have made no issues of rations or supplies to any class of people during the month.

There is but one school for freedmen in the Dist which is being kept by a freedman one mile from this place, this school has some sixteen scholars all in the alphabet.

There is much need of a reform with reference to the marriage relations of the freedpeople in this Sub-District, they either do not understand the law in this particular, or disregard its teachings. I am inclined to think the latter.
