and in no single case coming under my observation will the freedmen realize a dollar, for the reason that, owing to the unfavorableness of the season and the depriciated price of cotton, almost every planter within my sub-District has failed to raise enough to pay for supplies - From the best information that I can obtain there is not a planter in Adams County who will clear expenses during the past season.

IV The number of sick old and infirm in Hospital is twenty five (25) - The major part are old and infirm - Two females are insane -

V The number of rations issued during the month was Four Thousand Nine Hundred & Twenty Nine (4929) - These were issued to the Orphan Asylums, and are independant of the issues to Freedmens Hospital, which were (821 1/2) Eight Hundred & Twenty One & a Half-

VI Six Schools reported at the close of last month, there are however several others in operation which were not in operation at the close of the month, and will be reported during the present month

VII As far as my information extends, the freedmen and women in this Sub. District have very generally kept and observed their marital relations with a most commendable fidelity-
