The Freedmen, throughout the District, have been badly persecuted during the month by the whites, because they ventured to think for themselves, many laborers have been dismissed. - causes:- attending political meetings, and voting the Republican ticket. Many when told to leave were threatened if they ever returned they would be murdered.

I am very confident, Capt Clifford, and his men, will teach the rebels to know, and to do better, judging from the present appearance of the crops these will be a large yield.-

Our school seven (7) in number are all doing well, but assistance for the teachers is needed from some source.-
