The money credited to the School Commissions in this affidavit is all the money or warrants I have received prior Oct 1[[superscript]] st [[superscript]] 1868, and I have authorized no person or persons to receive any money for me,  and if [[C.f?]] Partridge or others has received money [?]] my account, they have done so without my permission, and I consider myself in no way responsible for any money [fees?]] paid for them.

All the above was [[?]] and subscribed to in this office. This affidavit was forwarded to J.J. Bowan President of the School Commission with the following letter dated at Vicksburg Miss August 31[[superscript]]st[[superscript]] 1868.

                      Sir
                         Your attention is [[invited?]] to this enclosed affidavit of W[[?]] [[Slaugheter?]], it shows that the warrants drawn in his favor, excepting [[?]] mentioned in his affidavit, [[much?]] his forgeries, and as [[Bol?]] Partridge was not authorized [[?]]received his money, the loss must be sustained by the Committee, unless it can be proven that W[[?]] did receive this warrant drawn in his favor.

To this letter W[[?]] Bowman [[...leid?]] and requested that the case might be investigated in the office of the Sub Asst [[Comm?]], and mentioned Wednesday Sept 9[[superscript]]th[[superscript]] 1868 as a convenient [[?]] for this investigation and requested that  A.J. [[?]] J.O.
